Garcia Ks 16 and Homers in Pac-12-Opening Win

The Bruins hit three home runs and had their ace strike out 16 in the circle.

EUGENE, Ore. - Redshirt sophomore Rachel Garcia struck out 16 Ducks on Friday and also hit a solo home run, with junior Brianna Tautalafua and redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan also leaving the yard, as the second-ranked Bruins improved to 25-0 with a 6-2 victory over #6 Oregon at Jane Sanders Stadium.

Garcia moved to 11-0, scattering two runs, five hits and three walks in her seven innings. She struck out four in the first inning thanks to a strikeout-passed ball, adding three more in the second, two in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth and one in the seventh.

The Bruins had nine hits from six different players, as senior Kylee Perez produced three hits and junior Taylor Pack added two.

Garcia stranded the bases loaded in the first and left one in scoring position in the third, as UCLA would score two in the fourth on one swing of the bat. Perez led off with a single to right, and one out later, Tautalafua homered high off the netting in left field for her sixth bomb of the season to make it 2-0.

In the sixth, Garcia launched a one-out homer to deep center, her third of the year to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Bruins tacked on three more in the seventh with a two-out rally. Freshman Briana Perez was hit by a pitch and scored on a double to left-center by her sister Kylee to make it 4-0. Jordan followed with a homer to left, her fifth of the year, to bring the advantage to 6-0.

Oregon (23-5) rallied for two in the seventh on a Lauren Lindvall solo homer and an Alexis Mack RBI infield single, but Garcia retired the last three batters of the game to send the Bruins to their 25th victory to tie for their fifth-best start in program history.

The Bruins continue their series in Eugene on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will air on Pac-12 Networks National and Los Angeles.
