Regals Shut Down Tigers

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The California Lutheran women's tennis team won its first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) dual as the Regals defeated the Occidental Tigers 6-3 Saturday at the Poulson Tennis Center.

Cal Lutheran opened the dual by winning two of the three doubles matches. Christie Kurdys and Gianna Cupo were victorious at the No. 1 spot (8-3) and Sarah Seeman and Annette Sousa won at the No. 2 (8-4).

Occidental was able to salvage the doubles play as the Tigers won at the No. 3. Nicole Neumann and Jade Moore came up short as they lost 8-3.

The Regals started singles play in dominating fashion. Seeman and Cupo didn't allow their opponents a single point and gave CLU a 4-1 lead. Seeman and Cupo won at the No. 2 (6-0, 6-0) and No. 3 (6-0, 6-0), respectively.

Cal Lutheran's Nuemann clinched the match for the Regals as she won at the No. 5 spot (6-1, 6-1). Sousa scored the last point for CLU as she won at the No. 4 (6-2, 6-0).

Occidental claimed the two final singles matches as Kurdys fell at the No. 1 (6-4, 6-3) and Moore was defeated at the No. 6 (6-4, 7-5). Cal Lutheran won the match hard fought match with a score of 6-3.
